The Bloody Day After

You know the feeling...the one where you had tooooo much fun last night?  You wake up and find that the crack of light sneaking in under your bedroom door is too much, that the heavy breathing of the dog in your bed is too loud and you have the distinct realization that if you lift your head off of your pillow, your brain may explode.  Yep.  That's called New Year's Day!

Happy MMXI!

I did not wake up like the description above this year, but I've been there, we all have.  So in honor of New Year's Day, the inevitable hangover and kicking off 2011 with a serving of vegetables, I bring you....

The Blood Mary, A Girl in the South Style!

To me, there is NO hair of the dog like a Bloody Mary.  I don't like tomato juice, but this, I love.  So go mix up a batch, kick back and watch some football and welcome in 2011!  Thanks for reading y'all!

Bloody Mary, A Girl in the South Style!
Makes 4 drinks

20 ounces tomato juice
8 ounces vodka
4-6 shakes of Tobasco sauce
2-3 good shakes of Worcestershire sauce
1/2 -1 teaspoon horseradish
1-2 shakes celery salt
1-2 shakes black pepper
juice of 1 lime
Spicy pickled green beans (for garnish)

Mix all of the ingredients.  Run the juiced lime wedges around the rim of the glasses dipping them in course ground salt and pepper.  Fill the glasses with ice, the top with the Bloody Mary mix!  Enjoy!

I thankfully have never needed this drink although I do remember twice having sympathy hangovers for my friends - it really sucked LOL!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Oh my gawd, that sounds delish! I rarely ever drink bloody mary's, but when I do, I always forget how much I love them. Your recipe sounds ah-mazing!... minus the Worcestershire sauce for the vegetarians like me. Do you know there are anchovies in that stuff?

Thankfully I'm not hung over, but I did get like 12 hours of sleep. Do I still have an excuse for one of these?

Dangrdafne - sympathy hangovers???? You're a really good friend to put up with THAT!!!!

Char - I think any time you feel "not quite yourself" a Bloody Mary will go a LONG way to fixing what ails ya! It's sort of like hot tea...there's never a bad time for it!!!

I do adore a bloody mary, if it isn't overly spicy. I can't handle that early in the morning.

Hmm, do you know of a decent bloody mary mix? I'm a simple lady and as much as I would love to get done and dirty with all those ingredients I'm lazy!

Miss T- I'm a fan of Red Eye Bloody Mary mixes. I prefer the horseradish one, but that Amy be too spicy for you, so try the standard mix first- you luuuuurve it!

Sounds delish! I am a Bloody Mary LOVER, and I will definitely try this one. If I'm in a hurry, I use Zing Zang Bloody Mary mix. It's in our liquor stores here in Mississippi, and I've also seen it in Alabama and Louisiana. Try it if you get a chance.

I will definitely try this, tho. I put up home-made pickled green beans this summer especially for my bloody marys, and they will be great in these! Thanks for sharing the recipe!

Jen- I've heard good things about Zing Zang, but I've never tried it. I'll pick up a bottle on my next trip to Spec's and 'take one for the team' and try it out!

Miss T- sorry for the earlier typos....I am not actually illiterate even though I do sound that way!
