Stock Up for Winter Giveaway!

Even though it's like 85 degrees in Houston on November 12th, I know that most of you are starting to feel the chill of winter.  I might see something below 75 by Christmas if I'm lucky!  I keep cranking my a/c down really low so I can wear flannel pajama pants and sleep with tons of blankets, but alas...it doesn't affect the weather.

But you know what?  When it gets cold...I make soup.

To make soup...you need a great pot.  Hey! Hey! Hey!  That's where I come in!!!  I have a Le Creuset stockpot that I use to make large batches of soup and I love, love, love it!  I think you need one too.

So, up for grabs is one Caribbean Blue Enamel on Steel Le Creuset 8 qt stockpot.

Isn't it pretty?

Since it's enamel over steel, it's really lightweight, so even full of soup you can easily lift and carry it!

How do you get it?  Get 1 entry for each of the following -

#1 - In the comments, tell me what your favorite type of soup is!!!

#2 - Tweet a link to the giveway (make sure to @AGirlintheSouth)

Easy Peasy, right?

I'll pick a winner on Tuesday, November 16th...it's my brother's birthday, so I figure that day's as good as any!!! *The winner will have 48 hours to email me at the email listed over there -----> before I pick another winner.

GOOD LUCK!

I'm so boring- I just love basic potato and chicken soup. Yummy, filling, and totally too heavy to eat more than once a year.

Off to Tweet!

I LOVE SOUP. It is the only thing I can actually cook with any competence at all. My all-time favorite is a vegetarian red lentil stew, cooks up in about 30 minutes and perfect with warm bread on cold, damp or snowy days.

Pumpkin chili!!! Recipe:

Ingredients
1 can each: diced tomatoes, "chili hot" beans (not rinsed), kidney beans (rinsed), pinto beans (rinsed), tomato sauce, pumpkin (NOT pie filling).
1 packet chili seasoning, 2tsp cinnamon, 2tsp garlic powder, 2tsp oregano, 1tsp ground clove, salt/pepper, cheddar cheese for topping, 1pkg ground beef.

Directions
Mix all but beef, cheese, and 1/2 seasoning packet in crock pot, cook all day on Low (or ~4 hours on High).
Turn crock pot to High. Brown beef with rest of seasoning, put in crock pot and cook on High for 30-60 minutes more.
Top with cheddar and enjoy!

I love my moms seafood chowder! I don't know if that qualifies in your 'soup' thoughts but in the Northeast we make more chowders!

*off to tweetland now!*

Whoops...may have posted at the wrong place...:)

My favorite soup is Italian Wedding Soup the way our family has made it. It is always on the menu at Christmas time and during the cold months.

I love soups but my all time favorite is a bowl of homemade Chicken Noodle soup! It is great on a cold day.

that pot is gorgeous. I love sausage and wild rice soup.

My favorite soup is venison chili. I am usually able to get ground venison from some neighbors who are deer hunters. That's the only way I like to eat venison, or 'deer meat' as it is known around here!

My mom's traditional Portuguese "Caldo Verde". Made with kale or collard greens, pureed potato and chorizo. So good!!!!

Good old creamy tomato soup is my favourite. Why I hear you ask? When sick, my Mummy used to make it for me when I was younger. She would add some chunks of cheddar cheese which would make it all gooey and yummy. I have fond memories of this and it is most definitely my comfort food. I will often purchase Heinz creamy tomato soup over here at an inflated price but sometimes everyone needs a slice of home to keep them going.

Pick me, pick me!!!!

Greek lemon soup is my favorite. The base is chicken stock with an egg mixed in (you don't see the egg it just adds a creamy texture to the soup). It's so creamy and tart. I want to make some right now.

I am in love with Tomato Basil soup but I'm still searching for the perfect recipe. I had the best TBS at an Italian restaurant, The Grotto, in Las Vegas and I've been wanting to recreate it ever since.

My favorite soup is Polish pickle soup. It sounds nuts, but it's simple and divine, with a bright zing that comes from brine-soaked Polish pickles and a little bit of sour cream. We ate it almost every day in Poland and we make it at least once a month here. Finding the Polish pickles in Austin is tricky, though. There's only one place I know to get them.

How can you pick a favroite soup, that are are all SO good! Especially because it's 40 degrees here today. If I HAD to pick one I'd have to go with a creamy broccoli soup. I guess I am out since I do not have a twitter account. Good Luck to all!

Anonymous - Not having a twitter doesn't mean you're out - the winner will be randomly selected through random.org - just means you're on the list once instead of twice!

Kelly - I want that pumpkin chipotle soup recipe!!! Is it online somewhere?

My favorite soup is two.
First, my german grandmother-in-law made a fabulous cheese button soup. Comfort food like would not believe.
And second, my friend laura's sausage and spinach soup. It probably has a mire official title, but it is soooo
Ridiculously tasty; pair it with some Gouda grilled cheese and yum. Yum...
